Introduction to (Hypoallergenic) Shih Tzu

The Shih Tzu is an ancient dog breed originally from Tibet. They have a long and beautiful double-coat that often comes in multiple colors and can reach up to 16 inches high. The coat does require daily care and combing, but regular brushing reduces shedding, making the Shih Tzu a great hypoallergenic dog breed choice for those with allergies.

Shih Tzu Size and Height

Training

The Shih Tzu breed is incredibly smart, which means it can be trained easily if given consistency and positive reinforcement such as treats or verbal praise. Training your pup early on will help ensure that he/she grows into a well-behaved adult dog who knows how to behave in public places and around people.

Shih Tzu Grooming

Shih Tzus have long fur that requires regular grooming—at least once per week—to keep it healthy and free from tangles. Bathing every two weeks or so with quality dog shampoo. You should also trim the fur around the eyes and paws regularly to keep it neat and avoid any eye problems due to hair on the face. They don’t need as much brushing when they’re short-haired as when they have longer hair.

If you’re looking for a pup who will love you unconditionally no matter what life throws at them then look no further than the loyal Shih Tzu! They may require extra care with their grooming needs but are otherwise quite low maintenance and make wonderful family pets no matter what size household you live in!
